Musical Design Project

The goal of this project was to experiment with cuing intelligent fixtures. We were allowed to choose any song from a musical we wanted and given full creative freedom on our plot and design. I chose the song Noel’s Lament from the musical Ride the Cyclone. The arc of my design was focused on transforming the space from Noel’s reality of being in the darkness of death versus the vibrant intensity of the life he dreamed of having when he was alive.

Associate Design Project

For this project we labeled as associate designers, designing for an unconventional theatre space. The main focus as an associate was determining where the trusses and ladders should be rigged. Since this project was set in an outdoor setting, we also had to create research boards to show how we would support the story with the complication of the sun being a source of light in the first act of the show.

Dance Design Project

This project focused on designing for dance. We were given dance rehearsal videos, created blocking charts, and created a cue list based on the movement and design concept

Musical Project Plot

Regional Design Project

This was one of our first projects designing with a complex set. We focused on figuring out how to design for a show that has set pieces that make it difficult to light. This was also a theatre with a smaller inventory, so we were able to develop our strategic skills to be able to design with smaller circumstances.
